Let's briefly review the principle of a cock ring, the desired effect, and whether there are any risks.
Use a cock ring to maintain your erection!
The principle of the penis ring is to put a ring at the base of the penis, when it is erect, in order to block the blood in the penis; the idea is to reinforce the erection and to maintain it (not to create it) since the blood cannot leave.
It is a mechanism similar to that of a tourniquet.
The cockring is also used when using a penis pump; the pump is supposed to create an erection mechanically, and the ring blocks the blood to maintain it.
Its effectiveness varies from person to person, depending on stress or discomfort during use. It works well, however, if the man is comfortable with the process.
Quite simply, the ring is attached to the base of the erect penis.
The cockring then maintains the blood pressure inside the penis by compressing it: the blood cannot be released from the penis and the erection is maintained.
It is exactly the same as a tourniquet that would block the blood flow by compression.
After installing the penis ring at the base of the erect sex, the use of a penis ring should not be prolonged more than 20 minutes.
After that, it is dangerous for the cavernous bodies of the penis and the blood circulation. So make sure you don't fall asleep with it on!
The best thing to do is to put it on just before or at the beginning of intercourse, when the erection is most rigid, and to take it off directly after intercourse (not more than 20 minutes).
How to choose a cockring?
The cockring should neither be too tight nor too wide. It is therefore important to measure the circumference of your penis to find out its diameter!
Once you have measured the circumference of your penis, divide this figure by 3.14 (Pi); the result is normally between 2.8 and 5 cm.
Next you need to choose a penis ring that is durable, non-toxic and safe. Silicone or hypoallergenic rubber (TPR/TPE) rings are of good quality.
In terms of texture, a smooth ring is easier to put on. Finally, if you want it to vibrate, you should pay a little more to make sure it works!
The main risk is to damage the blood circulation in the penis," explains Gilbert Bou Jaoudé, a sexologist. The cockring prevents blood from flowing in and out of the penis, so it can cause asphyxiation of the penile tissues.
The most dangerous thing would be to forget to remove it after intercourse and fall asleep: as the blood is not oxygenated, the tissues are also impoverished, risking irreparable damage (necrosis).
There is also a high risk of haematomas if the ring is used for a long time, which can lead to the bursting of certain veins.
Whether used as a "sex toy" or a medical device, the use of the penis ring is not dangerous as long as the conditions of use are respected.
For some men, whose use is simple and does not interfere, it has a satisfactory effect on the quality of their erection.
It is not a substitute for erection medication, even when used with a vaccum (penis pump), as it cannot create an erection. It can only strengthen it and maintain it longer.
In any case it may be worth consulting a sexologist online before using a cockring, especially to find out how to choose one and where to buy it.
